Birmingham Central Goods Station: mrcgy693
View of the branch line to the Midland Railway's Central
Goods Yard Depot which left the Birmingham West Suburban Railway near Five Ways
station. The lines from New Street station were at a lower level on the left
whilst the branch line continues on the right past the water crane. Originally
named Worcester Wharf Goods Depot when the depot first opened in July
1887 its name was changed in 1892. The Midland Railway described it as 'the
most central goods station in the city' and 'replete with every facility for
promptly dealing with all descriptions of general goods and merchandise
traffic'. The depot was finally closed in March 1967 after nearly 80 years of
service.
