Managers and engineers involved with the alterations and new work of the Birmingham West Suburban Railway. Their identities are unknown but it is thought that John Underwood and John L Lowe are amongst them. John Underwood supervised the construction of the extensive alterations of the Birmingham West Suburban Railway with John L Lowe, the Midland Railway's Resident Engineer, assisting him. Both reported to Mr Alfred Andrew Langley, Chief Engineer, who was appointed in August 1883 to be responsible for all aspects of the Midland Railways Engineer's Department. John Underwood retired due to failing eyesight in September 1889 being replaced by the Chief Engineer, AA Langley.
