Metro-Cammell Diesel Multiple Unit is seen after arrival as the 10:30 am from Birmingham New Street. By this time a much-improved local service was in operation between New Street and Redditch, and the limited remaining service between Redditch and Ashchurch was being worked as a steam-hauled shuttle. The driver is in the process of changing the rear destination blind: although the electrified 'cross city' service now operates between Redditch and Lichfield, this was not then the case and the sign is coincidental.
