LMS 4-4-0 'Compound' No 1077 stands light engine with the fireman working on the tender rearranging the coal to his satisfaction on 21st May 1930. Not only would it make it easier for the fireman to shovel coal into the firebox but coal falling from a speeding train could be very dangerous so care had to be taken when filling the tender.
