Ex-MR outside framed 2-4-0 No 1 is seen on a local passenger train to Birmingham New Street on 7th November 1929. The tender is more modern in design than the locomotive as the springs are under the tender body not above the running plate as seen in earlier tender designs and is still evident on the locomotive. A member of the MR's 156 class No 1 was built at Derby works in September 1866 and was to remain in service until September 1930 when it was withdrawn to be scrapped by Derby works.
