An undated late view of Redditch's coaling stage and the approach to the locomotive shed and water column. The lack of coal on the stage and the piles of new sleepers and sections of crossovers and rails would indicate that the shed was no longer used by steam locomotives. This photograph does show that no other approach was available to the coaling stage nor any lifting equipment and therefore incoming locomotive coal must have been transhipped from wagon to stage by hand and then loaded into the bunker or tender of a locomotive all by hand.
