Ex-MR 1F 0-6-0 No 1777, still retaining its original boiler fittings, is seen standing 'cold' on one of Saltley shed's stabling roads ready for the next day's duties on 28th September 1947. The tool box was a characteristic of this class as were the prominent sand boxes seen in front of and behind the leading and rear axles. Behind No 1777 can be seen ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 3698 also coaled and watered ready to start duty on the Monday.

Built as a member of the MR's 1377/1552 class by Derby works in December 1890, No 1777 lasted in service for 66 years being withdrawn from Barrow Hill shed in Staveley in March 1956 to be scrapped shortly afterwards. Ex-MR 3F 0-6-0 No 3698 was built by Sharp Stewart eleven years later in May 1901 and also had a long life lasting in service until 1956 when it was withdrawn from Saltley in August 1956.
