View of the LMS built Whitacre Junction Signal Box on 3rd August 1969 one month prior to its closure. The signal box has a cat walk built on all sides to enable the signalman to clean the windows on a regular basis. The presence of two cast-iron chimney flues would indicate that the box was so large that it required two stoves. The presence of the motorcycle reminds us that for many signalmen based in rural areas that they often had to make their own way to work. In years previous this might have resulted in their using bicycles or even resorting to 'shanks pony' (e.g walking).
