British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92205 waits in
the south curve loop for ex-WD 2-8-0 'Austerity' No 90201 to clear the single
line from Stratford upon Avon on 15th May 1960. The south curve was opened on
27th September 1942 which immediately removed the time consuming need to
reverse at Broom station, a practice which had occurred from the day the line
opened in 1873. The Austerity is displaying Class H headlamps, one above the
other with the bottom lamp in the centre of the bufferbeam. The 9F was
returning to the Oxfordshire ironstone sidings at Cropredy at was carrying
Class F headlamps as seen in image 'smj_brm395'.
Despite its dirty condition, No 92205 is only a year old having been built by
Swindon works in May 1959. As with most British Railways locomotives, No 92205
was to have a short working life being withdrawn from 56A Wakefield shed in
June 1967 to be scrapped by Draper's of Hull.
