Close up of image 'smjfc15' showing the joint signal box and Fenny Compton SMJ station's up platform waiting room and store. The signal box was erected in 1931 and was equipped with two sets of levers, one for each company, the GWR's frame being on the left as viewed and the SMJ's on the right. Both lever frames commenced with No 1, the signal on the left above the SMJ shelter being GWR frame No 27. A BR box replaced the above in March 1960 when the junction was remodelled. On the right hand corner beneath the window are three fire buckets, a necessary safety practice due to the ever present danger of fire caused by embers ejected from the chimneys of passing locomotives.
