LMS Route: Stratford Midland Junction - The Shakespeare
Route
SMJ Locomotives: smjsa164
SMJ 0-6-0 No 17 stands on the road alongside the shed after
being coaled ready for its next turn of work. The locomotive was one of a pair
being built new for the SMJ by Beyer Peacock in 1908 and after grouping was
designated by the LMS as a class 2F locomotive and renumbered as No 2310 before
being withdrawn in 1925. As the locomotive is still in SMJ livery and as Edge
Hill Light Railway 0-6-0T No 1, formerly LBSCR 'Terrier' No 73 'Deptford', is
standing behind No 17, it is thought the date of the photograph is sometime in
the early 1920s. The Edge Hill Light Railway's locomotives were serviced at
Stratford on Avon shed until the EHLR closed in 1925.
