Close up of image 'smjsa166' Close up showing the carriage
sidings, exchange sidings, goods shed and other merchant facilities. The first
two sidings adjacent to the line to Broom were used to clean the carriages and
have low level platforms erected alongside to assist the cleaning staff to
access the vehicles. A short siding alongside the seven carriage sidings has
been equipped with a weighing machine and office enabling the weight of wagons
to be checked when unladen or laden with goods. Next to this siding is an
exchange siding used by the GWR and SMJ when transferring wagons between the
two companies. Hutchings together with the Alcester Cooperative Society have
both offices and coal stacking ground allocated for their use. Whilst in the
centre SMJ railway staff have been provided with a Goods Department Office, a
Permanent Way Inspector's Office, and various stores. For securing valuable
items a Strong Room has been provided.
