Midland Railway class 2 0-6-0, No 3425, is seen on the coaling stage road at Bournville on Sunday 31st August 1919

Midland 0-6-0 No 3425 is seen on the coal stage road at Bournville on Sunday 31st August 1919. Originally No 2148, it was built by Dubs & Company of Glasgow in 1892. The Midland assigned it power class 2 in 1905, renumbered it No 3425 in 1907, then rebuilt it in 1910. Though details of the rebuild are not available, the photo clearly shows that the Johnson smoke box door & chimney have been replaced by the Deeley types. Other features typical of Midland practice by 1919 are the engine number and shed allocation plates on the smoke box door, plus the high visibility engine number transfers on the sides of the tender. Bournville is known to have been the home depot in 1920. The engine survived long enough to be renumbered No 58262 by British Railways in 1949. Still fitted with a Johnson 'B' type boiler, it was withdrawn from service in 1951.
