Alcester Junction with the GWR Alcester Branch curving off to the right behind the engine shed and the MR line to Redditch straight ahead

Alcester Junctionwith the GW Alcester Branch curving off to the right behind the engine shed and the MR line to Redditch straight ahead to the left on 28th February 1953 . Measuring 38ft by 16ft it was sufficiently large to accommodate the branch locomotive. An inspection pit was inside and on this, the MR side of the shed, the shed road extended to the disposal pit situated next to the coaling stage that measured 20ft by 9ft now in ruins in this photograph. Both lines were single track, but a double track junction was constructed with the double track extending the short distance past the goods yard into Alcester Station. The original MR Alcester Junction Signal Box was located behind where the 64 milepost is sited. Built in 1876, this Signal Box controlled the junction and engine shed points and associated signals. The LMS constructed one new Signal Box to replace both the Alcester Junction and Alcester Station Signal Boxes in April 1932.
