GWR Route: Stratford Upon Avon to Honeybourne

Evesham Road Crossing: gwr_everd617

The original 1891 signalbox stands sandwiched between the gates controlling Evesham Rd and its replacement

The original 1891 box stands sandwiched between the gates controlling Evesham Road and its replacement, the new box which duly opened on 12th June 1960. The signalbox is clearly the same as seen in the 1904 photograph although the steps have been reversed to exit off the side of the signal box nearest the crossing see 'gwr_everd928'. It is thought the reason for the change was to allow the new signalbox to be built as close as possible to the road. The crossing was equipped with four lamps, one at each corner of the crossing. Two lamps of which are seen in this view with the right hand one displaying a 'dark' glass lens to one side. The 'dark' glass lens was in fact coloured red to warn road traffic of the crossings presence whilst the remaining clear glass lenses provided lighting for pedestrians crossing the railway at night.
