Restored to GWR livery, 0-6-0PT 64xx class No 6435 is seen standing at the racecourse up platform whilst on a SLS special on 24th April 1965. The locomotive appears to be carrying a Class 'K' lamp code which was used for Pick-up or branch freight or mineral/ballast on a short hall run. As the train clearly consists of passenger stock its not known why the locomotive was carry lamps to this code. One explanation might be the unusual nature of the special that of stopping so passengers could alight to take photographs at particular points during its itinerary. Built at Swindon works in April 1937 to Lot 305, No 6435 remained in service until October 1964 when it was withdrawn from Yeovil shed for preservation and outshopped in GWR livery. In this form No 6435 ran a number of specials during the final years of steam on British Railways.
