Great Alne Station: gwrga15

An early picture of Great Alne Station shortly after the first corrugated iron goods shed was erected

An early picture postcard of Great Alne Station taken shortly after the first corrugated iron goods shed was erected on the platform in 1908. The tall elm trees behind flank the Alcester – Wootton Wawen road. Great Alne Station was built in 1875. It was designed by the Alcester Railway Engineer William Clarke. The station building included a two storey Station Master’s house, which also incorporated the booking office on the ground floor and an adjoining single storey building, which housed the general and ladies waiting rooms. These areas were protected on the platform side by a canopy supported on cast iron brackets. The small extension to the right contained the lavatories.
