GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton

Acocks Green & South Yardley Station: gwrag1024

An unidentified ex-LMS 4-6-0 'Black Five' is seen at the head of a down express service emanating from the south. The signal box was opened in 1907 when refuge sidings were installed and because of its location did not need to be moved when the line was quadrupled. With 33 levers it remained in service from 1907 until 1969. Note the fact that the timber GWR station sign has been replaced by a British Railways enamel version.
