GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Acocks Green & South Yardley Station: gwrag17
Another Edwardian view of Acocks Green station from the
Leamington end of the up platform looking towards Birmingham. Whilst the
station opened from the outset in 1852 it was initially never considered to be
a an intermediate station of note on the route and its buildings reflected this
view. In their book 'Banbury to Birmingham', Vic Mitchell & Keith Smith
state that this plain type of structure was similar to that seen at Hatton
station. The station had no goods yard or siding such facilities being provided
by Bordesley station two stops down the line or Solihull two stops towards
Leamington.
