Ex-GWR 2-6-2T 41xx Class No 4108 pauses at Acocks Green station's platform 3 with a local Moor Street to Leamington service. Platforms 3 and 4 were located on the station's relief island platform structure, the photographer standing on the main island platform structure. The relief lines were created during the 1930s using existing loops thereby allowing local passenger services to use these routes together with goods trains whilst express services, and a number of fast local or goods services, would use the main lines. The two sets of lines are often mistakenly described as slow or fast lines, a description used by other railways but not by the GWR. Built by Swindon works to Lot 292 in September 1935, No 4108 was to remain in service until October 1964 when it was withdrawn from 87A Court Sart shed in Neath to be scrapped by the Steel Supply Company Jersey Marine of Swansea.
