Close up of image 'gwr782' showing the front elevation of the original 1876 main station building with porter's trollies on the platform. The main station building was a rectangular brick structure with a low pitched gable roof and projecting platform canopy. Internally there were three rooms; booking office, waiting room & ladies waiting room. A small extension on the East end 'see gwrb777' contained a porter's room/store together with a gentlemen’s toilets at the rear. The partially glazed platform canopy was supported on ornamental brackets/iron work with the letters SR (Stratford Railway) incorporated. William Clarke's preferences in his design for T & G fretwork are seen in canopy. In the distance what is assumed to be the Bearley TOAD waits for a mixed train to Alcester in the replacement refuge siding. Most of the other trackwork and signalling alterations are still incomplete on 19th May 1939.
