GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
Bordesley Station: gwrbg1333
View of Bordesley Goods Yard looking south towards Small
Heath station and showing Small Heath Road bridge crossing the GWR line in the
distance circa 1954. To the right of the six through running lines is the
throat of the Caledonia Yard, part of which was previously occupied by
the engine shed that serviced the area prior to the opening of Tyseley shed in
1908. To the left is the Old Yard, Baltic and Baulks yards. The
proximity of the Midland Railway's line resulted in a single line connection
being installed in November 1861. The line was eventually doubled to handle the
heavy traffic that resulted as a consequence of the war effort during the
Second World War.
