The coal wagons on the left of the photograph would be forwarded to the coal merchants in the Birmingham area. In the centre of the photograph is an open top wagon sheeted over with a canvas tarpaulin. It was quite common to use wagons to carry loads which might be too heavy or bulky to place in a van but which needed to protected from inclement weather or from the sparks and soot from the locomotives.
