Removal of subsidiary brick arches from the supporting piers during the partial reconstruction of Bordesley Viaduct in 1939

Removal of subsidiary brick arches from the supporting piers during the partial reconstruction of Bordesley Viaduct in 1939. The work force used pneumatic drills and other labour saving machinery to minimise the weekend occupations on this important route. After the subsidiary arch brick work was removed each of the pier tops were levelled and prepared for bridging with reinforced pre-cast concrete slabs.
