GWR Route: Alcester to Hatton Junction
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Bearley Station: gwrbj437
GWR 4-4-0 No 3449 'Nightingale', a member of the Bulldog
class, waits for the right of way by Bearley Junction East signal box circa
1930s. Robert Ferris writes "Bearley Junction East signal box, which is the
same box as depicted in 'gwrb440' and 'gwrb440a' had a 31 lever frame installed in 1907, but
the box structure predated this. It appears to be a McKenzie & Holland Type
3 design probably dating from 1876 when the Alcester branch was opened (Earlier
McK&H designs did not have a gabled roof)." No 3449 'Nightingale' was built
at Swindon in December 1909 and was withdrawn from Gloucester Horton Rd shed in
June 1951.
