A 3150 class 2-6-2T prairie tank No 3152 passes the Alcester Branch Junction with a Stratford - Birmingham semi-fast on 5th August 1946. These engines were built with larger boilers than the 31xx class and were mostly used for banking duties. The strain on the front end frames caused by banking led to the introduction of the support struts, which subsequently became a standard feature on all classes with leading pony trucks. Locomotive No 3152 was built at Swindon in April 1907 and withdrawn 1947. The train consists of two sets of four coaches, the first being a Churchward set whilst at the rear are a later Collet set. A comparison with gwrbj444 will show that the bracket signals have now been removed from the tall signal with repeater arm.
