View of the Control Office at Snow Hill station which was responsible for the movement of trains on the former GWR lines in the West Midlands on 16th November 1965. The Midland Railway pioneered the active monitoring, controlling and changing the movement of trains to reflect events occurring across the network. Very quickly other companies followed suit as the results of active management led to reduced costs in both utilisation of staff and rolling stock.
