GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh1166b
Close up of image 'gwrbsh1166' showing the layout of the
southern end of Snow Hill station with access being made available via the
station access road off Livery Street. The passenger foot bridge was erected as
part of the 1871 rebuilding programme. The water crane is located at the South
end of the up platform which was opposite the Signal Box opened at the same
time as the second station. The drawing shows that originally the Great Western
Hotel had sidings located underneath as well as the through roads. This was not
conducive to the comfort of hotel guests because of the ingress of smoke and
the noise of the locomotives entering and leaving the station.
