GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh1172
View of Snow Hill station's South Signal Box as British
Railways Standard Class 4 4-6-0 No 75026 enters the station on 2nd May 1959.
The signal box was opened in 1913 with the rebuilding of the station and
because of its location beyond the over bridge at the South end of Platform is
rarely included in photographs of the station. Arriving at the head of the 2
10pm Paddington to Birkenhead express service No 75026 has piloted ex-GWR 4-6-0
No 6008 King James II from Leamington because of a speed restriction at the
southern end of Snow Hill tunnel. Allocated to Tyseley for just a brief period
prior to moving to Machynlleth shed in June 1959, No 75026 would be released at
Snow Hill and work back to Leamington to assist later northbound services.
