on 24th July 1954. The escape to the seaside was a luxury to the average
British worker and was much needed after the austere period during and after
the Second World War. The final legacy of the World, the rationing of food in
Britain, had ended at mid-night on 4th July when the restrictions on the sale
and purchase of meat and bacon were finally lifted.
