British Railways Sulzer Type 4 diesel locomotive D59 is seen being named 'Royal Warwickshire Fusilier' in a ceremony at Platform 7 on 22nd May 1964. Later classified by British Railways as Class 45 the locomotives were built by British Railways at their Derby and Crewe Works between 1960 and 1962. The class were the production versions of what became the Class 44 series of ten locomotives. When initially put into service the locomotives were fitted with multi-unit working and steam heating boilers for passenger service. Built at Crewe works in February 1962 D59 was later renumbered 45104 The Royal Warwickshire Fusilier and remained in service until 13th April 1988 when it was withdrawn from service to be later scrapped by MC Metals of Glasgow in February 1992.
