Prototype British Railways Co-Co D0260 'Lion' is seen standing at the southern end of Snow Hill station's through road on 3Z52, an empty test train on 3rd May 1962. A prototype Type 4 mainline diesel locomotive D0260 was built in 1962 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) in association with Sulzer and the Associated Electrical Industries, at BRCW's Smethwick works. The locomotive's number was derived from its works number which was DEL260.

Fitted with a Sulzer 12LDA28C engine of 2,750 horsepower and a maximum speed of 100 mph D0260 weighed 114 tons. It's livery was a white body with five gold stripes along the bottom half of its bodyside. British Railways initially tested it on the Western Region's services out of London Paddington, and later on the Eastern Region from London King's Cross. However, British Railways decided to purchase its new Type 4 fleet from Brush Traction (Class 47s) and so D0260 was withdrawn and scrapped in November 1963 at BRCW Smethwick.
