British Railways built 4-6-0 Castle class No 7012 'Barry Castle' is seen enroute to the breakers yard with ex-GWR 4-6-0 King class No 6005 'King George II' in March 1963

British Railways built 4-6-0 Castle class No 7012 'Barry Castle' is seen en-route to the breakers yard with ex-GWR 4-6-0 King class No 6005 'King George II' in March 1963. Built at Swindon works in July 1927 No 6005 was first allocated to Old Oak Common shed and then Stafford Road where it was based for much of the 1950s. Fitted with the 'Alfloc' water treatment system in 1954 followed by a double chimney in July 1956 No 6005 remained in service until November 1962 when it was withdrawn from Old Oak Common shed. Built at Swindon works in June 1948 No 7012 remained in service for a little longer being withdrawn in November 1964 from Oxley Road shed to be scrapped February 1965 by J Cashmore of Great Bridge.
