British Railways Diesel - Hydraulic D1000 'Western Enterprise' is seen arriving at Platform 6 at the head of the 6 30am Birkenhead to Paddington service on 30th August 1962. Built at Swindon works in December 1961 D1000 was first allocated to Plymouth Laira shed and then later in June 1964 to Old Oak Common shed after which D1000 returned to Plymouth Laira shed where following damage to its 'A' end it was withdrawn in February in 1974 after 1,240,000 miles service.
