A view from the end of platform 6 of the northern approach of Snow Hill Station, with the distinctive North Signal Box dominating the scene. The limited space on the viaduct at this point dictated that this Signal Box be positioned on braced steel stanchions. The North Signal Box opened on 31st October 1909 and was one of the first all electric signalling systems on the Great Western Railway. It contained 224 levers operating; points as far as 243 yards and signals as far as 620 yards, from the Signal Box. The two lines to the immediate left of the signal box were the relief lines, while to the right was a short spur siding, the two main lines and the main loop line respectively. On the far right was the New Yard Sidings and in the distance Northwood Street Sidings where carriage stock was assembled.
