A view of the reconstructed Snow Hill Station looking south
from near Northwood Street Sidings. At this end of the station, glazed umbrella
canopy roofing supported on a series of central columns was provided over each
platform. Behind them the large wind screen of the main roof extends across all
the platforms. Unable to purchase land on either side of the station the two
main island platforms were 1,200 feet long, which allowed two trains to be
accommodated at each platform. A scissors crossing in the middle allowed either
train to depart first. Within each of the main island platforms were shorter
bay platforms for suburban services from Wolverhampton and Stourbridge. There
were no bay platforms at the southern end because local passenger services used
the Moor Street terminus Station at the other end of Snow Hill Tunnel. In this
photograph taken shortly after completion of the reconstruction a local train
is waiting to depart from bay platform No 9.
