The striking buff and red terracotta elliptical arches on the platform buildings below the glazed transverse roof bays

The striking buff and red terracotta elliptical arches on the platform buildings below the glazed transverse roof bays proved to be an attractive feature of Snow Hill station. The roof bay trusses were supported on a series of open web girders which bridged the whole width of the station. The platform buildings were faced with salt glazed bricks with copings and cornices picked out in the buff terracotta. The lower portions of the steel columns supporting the roof, were concealed in pillars in the buildings. Pieced by the large windows the decorative style of these buildings enhanced the effect of high glazed roof and gave the station a feeling of light and space. This photograph shows the Telegraph Office and Third class waiting room on the main up platform 7 and 8 was taken shortly after construction in 1911.
