This photograph was taken from close to the foot of the stairs from the main booking hall to the up island platform, soon after the completion of the station reconstruction. It depicts the activity on platform No 7, as passengers board and leave a recently arrived up express. The ability to create the feeling of space in such a restricted site is a credit to the design. The roof height over what the clean pavement slabs on the platform and the lighting from the glazed roof adds to the illusion. Also noticeable is the quantity of signage all uniform in appearance. In the train the closest coaches are clerestory carriages, but the third coach has an arc roof and may be one of the new restaurant cars.
