Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT No 45039 and ex-LMS 4-6-2 Coronation Class No 46235 'City of Birmingham' approach Snow Hill station on 19th May 1966

Ex-LMS 4-6-0 5MT No 45039 and ex-LMS 4-6-2 Coronation Class No 46235 'City of Birmingham' approach Snow Hill station on 19th May 1966. The Coronation class locomotive had been built by Crewe works in July 1939, complete with double chimney, and remained in service until September 1964 when it was withdrawn from 5A Crewe North shed to be preserved at Birmingham's Science Museum. It was photographed on its way to its final destination. The Stanier Black 5 was built in October 1934 at the Vulcan Foundry to works number 4584 and was to remain in service until August 1967 when it was withdrawn from 8A Edge Hill shed to be scrapped by J Buttigieg of Newport.
