Close-up showing the detail of the 65 foot over-girder turntable at Birmingham Snow Hill, which was supplied by Ransomes & Rapier of Ipswich. The over-girder bridge was balanced on a central pivot and a rail ran around the rim of the shallow pit to support the ends of the bridge which had a wheel on either side at each end. The handle seen here was used to manually turn the over-girder bridge. Note that the handle was hinged, so that when not in use it could be folded back to lay on top of the bridge girder where it would not be a safety hazard. This photograph was taken on 21st March 1963.
