GWR Route: Banbury to Wolverhampton
GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh565a
Close up of image 'gwrbsh565' showing the East side of Snow
Hill station's Concourse with a chauffeured driven car and horse-drawn carriage
in view. Pedestrian access to the Concourse was available via either Colmore
Row or Livery street although the access for road traffic was limited to the
latter. The period immediately before the First World War saw significant
investment by the GWR with the opening of the new station in 1912, the North
Warwickshire Line and route to the West England in 1908 as well as the shorter
route to Paddington via Bicester and High Wycombe opened in 1910. The fares to
London seen displayed on the advertising board were via 'this shortest route'.
The gold lettering at the top of the advertising board reads 'GWR' 'The Holiday
Line'.
