Close up of the set of steps that led down from the broad covered walkways which were accessed from either side of the Concourse. The newsagents and other booths on the platform were erected after the rebuilding and were provided in response to the fast growing commuter traffic. Unlike New Street station Snow Hill was a closed station meaning that passengers had to pass through a ticket barrier to gain entry to the platforms. People not travelling but wishing to gain access to see off or meet other passengers had to obtain a platform ticket which cost '1D', one old penny, - of which 2.4 old pennies made up one new penny in decimal currency.
