Birmingham Snow Hill Station: gwrbsh77
Looking North from the tunnel entrance during the Snow Hill
station reconstruction work, as an unidentified Great Western Railway 2-6-2T
suburban prairie locomotive stands at the head of a local up passenger train in
1908. On the platforms temporary roofing has been provided to protect
passengers from inclement weather during construction, whilst in the background
the moveable girder stage complete with the crane, straddles the main lines and
platforms. From this special stage high above the normal station operations,
the contractors erected the new roof framework, while the stage floor provided
protection for the public and traffic below. In the foreground above the
photographer is the girder supporting the floor of the new booking offices.
