Claverdon Station: gwrc919

Viewed from the footbridge GWR 4-6-0 No 6851 Hurst Grange starts away from Claverdon for Leamington

Viewed from the footbridge a Great Western 68xx Class 4-6-0 No 6851 Hurst Grange starts from Claverdon with a five coach passenger train from Worcester to Leamington on 22nd April 1957. This train was timetabled to depart Worcester at 12.40, Stratford at 1 55p.m. and Claverdon at 2 10p.m. arriving at Leamington at approximately 3 20p.m. It was scheduled to return home with the 4 20p.m. Leamington to Worcester. The 68xx class was intended to be replacements for the general purpose 43xx 2-6-0 engines, but war had interrupter the replacement programme. No 6851 Hurst Grange was built at Swindon in November 1937, withdrawn from Tyseley Shed (2A) in August 1965 and scrapped by Birds at Long Marston in January 1966. Notice the white rectangles painted on the front corner of each waiting room. This was a remnant of the wartime blackout precautions.
