Claverdon Station: gwrc925

Looking towards Hatton from the road bridge on 17th March 1939, just a few months prior to the opening of double track and new station on 2nd July 1939. After this date the old station was designated a ‘Good’s lock up’. In the yard what appears to be a coal merchants lorry is being loaded with sacked coal from one of the wagons, while behind the contractor’s mechanical excavator and stacks of tramway rail lengths can be seen. The wagon nearest the camera is not a brake van, but a workshop / tool van (diagram CC7) belonging to either the signalling or engineering departments. These iron vans (notice the round corners) had skylights in the roof to provide better illumination to the interior.
