GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line
Danzey for Tanworth Station: gwrdt657b
Close up of image 'gwrdt657' showing Danzey for Tanworth
station's signal box, the passing loop and the turnouts at either end for
accessing the goods yard. The turnouts were designed to be trailing points
meaning that trains entering the yard had to reverse into the passing loop
rather than entering directly. This was a safety feature common across all
railway companies as it prevented potential derailments as the 'tongue' of
facing points could be split apart from the main rail. This was clearly
dangerous to the expresses travelling at high speed on the line. Whilst there
was a passenger footbridge, a barrow crossing at the end of the station was
still necessary to provide access for parcel traffic etc from one platform to
another.
