British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 No 92221, on a down Type 4 express freight working, has just past Earlswood Lakes station in early 1965. A Type 4 classification indicated that the train was 'Express freight train pipe fitted throughout with the automatic brake operative on NOT less than 90% of the vehicles. Maximum speed 55 mph. A maximum speed of 60 mph will apply in respect of certain trains specifically indicated in the Working Timetable.' It would need the facilities of the automatic brakes to be available, with the prospect of the 1:150 descent to Stratford upon Avon and the weight of the wagons behind the tender pressing the locomotive hard, to ensure that it can keep to time safely. Built by Crewe works in May 1958, No 92221 was to be scrapped after a very short working life of ten years being withdrawn in May 1965 from 50A York shed to be scrapped by Hughes Bolckow Ltd of North Blyth.
