GWR Route: North Warwickshire Line

Earlswood Lakes Station: gwrel460a

Close up of the storage shed which was located on the down platform adjacent to the goods yard

Close up of image 'gwrel460' showing the storage shed located on the down platform adjacent to the goods yard. The storage shed would be used for bulky items and for goods not suitable to be stored in the Parcels Office located in the station building. As stated in the introduction to Earlswood Lake Station, 'some 4,230 parcels were forwarded in 1913, rising to 6,450 in 1923 but then falling back to 1,616 parcels by 1933. Parcels could be very large (the parallel above might be an example) - another good example of such traffic can be seen at Coventry in image 'lnwrcov599' which records a 1950s scene.
