Great Alne Station photographed in 1889 from the level crossing looking towards Bearley. The Station Master at this time was Mr Joseph Barber. The photograph clearly shows the ornate architectural features of the Station Masters House; Red brickwork laid in English bond (alternate courses of headers and stretchers), square headed stone lintels over the large paned sash windows, massive decorative chimneys (typical of William Clarke) and the stone copings on the gable end parapets supported on overhanging scrolled kneelers.
