GWR Route: Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch

Great Alne Station: gwrga796a

Close up of image 'gwrga796' showing the gangers hut at the Bearley end of the goods yard and the up distance signal protecting Spencer’s level crossing. On the opposite side of the track is the hut which contained the East Ground Frame controlling the goods yard loop and mileage siding points. The point levers in both East and West Ground Frames were unlocked using the single line tablet. General practice was for the mixed trains from Bearley to Alcester to use the siding connection trailing from the platform end of the loop, while trains from Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch used the connection trailing from this end of the loop. The mileage siding was normally shunted by Hatton to Bearley and Alcester Branch trains.
